Latin Wonder (2001)

This is an album project that remains close to my heart!

When the record company offered me the opportunity to record an album of "cover" songs, I immediately thought of doing a tribute to Stevie Wonder.  Besides his music being the main soundtrack of my adolescent and college years, meeting him in Philadelphia, when I was performing there with The Manhattan Transfer band, sealed the deal for me.  Upon being introduced, he complimented me on the show and then told me that he had been aware of my work from listening to the Milton Nascimento records that I had participated on!

This jam counts with the sultry vocals of Janis Siegel, as well as the stellar performances of Buddy Williams (drums), Steve Sandberg (piano, keyboards, arrangements), Leo Traversa (bass), Cecilia Tenconi (saxophones, flutes), Claudio Slon (drums) and Mitchel Long (guitar).

If you dig the afro-Cuban grooves of Mongo Santamaria and the slick Latin-jazz of Chucho Valdés, or the world music sound of Flora Purim and Airto Moreira, this is a record that has all that and more!

Out now on iTunes, CD Baby, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, and more!

Frank Colon leading a hot band of New York musicians in an original rendition of Stevie Wonder's classic "I Was Made to Love Her", from his "Latin Wonder" CD.

👈🏼Over here, on the left, is the cover of my first CD, where I'm leading an intrepid world-music ensemble featuring Aloisio Aguiar on piano, Buddy Williams on drums, Wayne Johnson on guitar and Gregory Jones on bass.  The record was done LIVE, over the course of two nights... and the band stretched itself into the musical danger zone every night, every set!  If you like groups like Spiro Gyra, Azymuth, Santana, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, you'll surely groove to this CD!
